Meet your neighbor: Lisa Pollack

A nearly lifelong resident of the “gargoyle” building on West 110th Street, Lisa recently retired from a decades- long career in independent school administration. Not yet a year out, (and as a reluctant

retiree), Lisa strived to step away completely from her working life in ways that would catapult her into a total “reset.” For the first time in over 25 years, she was able to travel freely without adherence to an academic calendar: a thrill! Lisa embarked on a series of international and domestic trips over the past ten months that provided her with the “fresh take” on life that she was seeking!

In between her travels, Lisa spent time pursuing many of the cultural activities she loves in New York and the tristate region. An ardent supporter of the NYPL, one spring day she stumbled on LiLY’s Monday film club at Morningside Heights, a happy accident as it turned out. This was her introduction to LiLY–which she is pleased to have discovered, thereby making the acquaintance of some of its film-loving members, for starters.

Simultaneously, Lisa enrolled in Reading Partners during the spring, a program for public school students who require remedial reading assistance. Students in K-4 are paired up with a reading tutor in a regularly scheduled weekly class during the school day. Lisa had the pleasure of coaching a third grade boy and sharing her love of reading with him. She will resume this, and perhaps engage in additional LiLY activities, as another “school year” begins. Lisa hopes to meet more of the dedicated neighborhood folks involved in LiLY’s numerous pathways–that is, anytime she finds herself on pause from planned travels this fall!
